For craft-loving kids

How to make a PIP dreamcatcher

What you need

  • 30 minutes
  • 1 paper plate
  • 1 pen knife
  • Scissors
  • Hole puncher
  • Yarn or ribbons
  • PIP cut-out charms
  • Markers (optional)
  • Glue (optional)
  • Decorative items, e.g. sequins, stickers (optional)

Instructions

  • Cut a hole in the centre of the plate. Leave about 2.5 centimetres of edging.
  • Punch six holes around the inside edge.
  • Punch one hole at the top, and another three at the bottom to hang your charms from.
  • Decorate your dreamcatcher.
  • Thread your yarn or ribbon through one of the six holes and tie a knot to secure it.
  • Start weaving a random pattern.
  • When you are done, tie a knot to secure it.
  • Make a loop to hang your dreamcatcher.
  • Cut out your charms. Remember to punch a hole.
  • Cut three pieces of yarn or ribbon of different lengths.
  • Tie the charms to the plate. And voila, you are done!

How to make a terrarium

What you need

  • 30 minutes
  • A plastic or glass container or jar with or without a lid
  • Pebbles
  • A terrarium-friendly plant (e.g fittonia) or succulent
  • Potting soil
  • Water
  • Activated charcoal (optional)
  • Decorative items, get creative! (optional)

Instructions

  • Cover the bottom of the container with colourful pebbles.
  • Sprinkle activated charcoal.
  • Pour about an inch of potting soil and pat it flat.
  • Make a small hole in the centre of the soil.
  • Repot the plant into the hole.
  • Put in more soil and pat it flat to hold the plant in place.
  • Unleash your imagination and decorate your terrarium!
  • Water the plant.
  • Close the lid if you have one.
  • Give your new terrarium enough sunlight and water.

Instructions for tender love & care

  • For a closed lid terrarium, water your plant every 2-3 weeks.
  • For an open terrarium, water it every 2-3 days.
  • Do not over-water or expose your plant to too much light.
  • If there is too much moisture or odour, you can open the lid occasionally to let the odour and water out.

How to make a light-up card

What you need

  • 30 minutes
  • CR2032 coin cell battery (power source)
  • Conductive adhesive copper tape (conductor)
  • Square piece of paper (switch)
  • 5mm LED bulb
  • Double-sided tape or glue
  • Scissors
  • Sticky tape
  • Print-out of PIP template
  • Decorative items, get creative!

Instructions

  • Print the PIP Light-up Card template.
  • Colour in your PIP template.
  • Cut a square piece of paper. Fold it into a triangle and stick one side down. This acts as your switch.
  • Measure and cut two strips of conductive copper tape.
  • *Follow the trace lines to stick your tape down. Leave a gap for the bulb.
  • Place the battery on top of the copper tape, positive side down. Stick the sides of the battery down with a small strip of tape.
  • Time to stick the bulb down! The longer leg is the positive side and the shorter one is the negative.
  • Open the legs of the bulb.
  • Stick the legs down with a narrow piece of tape in the right order.
  • Smooth down the tape with your finger. Make sure the legs are in contact with the copper tape.
  • Test your circuit! Press the triangular fold onto the battery. The bulb should light up when you press down on the battery.
  • Cut a hole in the star for the bulb.
  • Stick the card down.
  • You are done! Write a note to the brightest star in your life!

*When you come to the corners, fold the copper tape back at a 45 ° angle Then, with your finger make a crease and then fold it back at a 180° angle and continue to follow the trace line.
