Musical Plants (Parent–Child Workshop)

Have you ever made music with a monstera? Or composed with an asparagus plant?

In this hands-on workshop, professional Musical Plants players will introduce children along with their parents to the Musical Plants and devise ways of playing them to create new musical compositions with these unique digital instruments. Participants will play through a series of creative exercises that explore how this technology works and what else it could be used for. Musical Plants are unique digital instruments made from real living plants! When you connect with the plants and touch the leaves, you control a computer to make your own beautiful and unique melodies. Touch technology is at the core of this work, just like the way your smartphone knows where your finger is on your phone. These workshops will involve music-making, drawing, design and technology.

Throughout the workshop, participants will explore and further their understanding of the following areas through various activities: visual art, music, science and digital technology. It’s time to be surprised, delighted, and captivated by a magical world of Musical Plants, giving you a behind-the-scenes learning opportunity that participants can then use to show off to their family during the Playable Plants activation on the Esplanade Lawn. No prior musical experience is necessary!
